If you’re part of my mailing list or my street team, you know I’ve been working on a special article about German Shepherd rescues. I’ve always been an animal
lover and I was inspired to learn more about rescues when I created the character of Tan, the German Shepherd rescue in THE WATCHER, Book 2 in the
Crossing Realms paranormal romance series. One of my favorite things to do as a writer is to talk with people who are passionate about what they do.

It’s contagious! I’ve talked with an expert, and heard from many of my readers,
who’ve shared their amazing stories about German Shepherds. (Scroll down to
the bottom of this post to read them all!) Through it all, I’ve learned, enjoyed, and discovered, sometimes shedding tears, and other times, laughing out loud. But it’s all touched my heart. I want to thank all of these generous people, who shared their time and experience with me about these truly majestic animals, enabling me to make this article possible.

Ricki was saved from Miami Dade Animal Services as a blind hospice dog at age 14, in March 2019. Melanie from Paws 22 and Marta begged that I take her. My dear friend Alice was visiting from Alabama and offered to drive to Naples. “Linda if you do not take that poor sad little dog, he will die all alone in the mean cold shelter”. Off we went to meet Shelly who met us in Naples where Ricki promptly bit Linda.

Fast forward to October and he is the sweetest, happiest and best dog you will ever meet. His tail is always wagging like the energizer bunny.

He will remain at Healy Pack as he actually goes to do his business and barks to go out.

Connie was rescued from the mean streets of Miami after months of rescuers trying to catch her. She did have puppies that were most likely taken to be sold. When finally caught, she was taken to the vet where one technician was able to work with her. She does not trust humans and warns prior to biting.

She is food possessive, toy possessive but a love once she trusts you. She will defend her food and toys at all costs. She was diagnosed with mouth and mammary cancer. Prior to her death, Lori Hoffman, the Founder of Heidi’s Legacy, asked if I would take Connie, otherwise, she would have to be euthanized.

She has been with Healy Pack ever since. I adore her, but most visitors fear her. My friend Alice, who visited for getting Rescued Gulfport, stayed for a week and Connie warmed up to her. I do not consider her adoptable with her behavior and medical. She would only go to a very experienced, dedicated home if she outlives me.

Connie is housebroken, uses the doggy door, and rides well in the car. She plays very little with her pack members but has not been involved in any dog fights. When the Alphas act up as they are prone to do, she leaves the area. She would be great as a house guard dog because she can be scary, but if you move toward her she backs down.
