If a rescued senior German shepherd lives out his or her last years, months, or days with dignity, love, and respect, we also consider that a success story. We honor the dogs who passed away in the care of loving adopters, fosters, or the Sanctuary and extend our sincere condolences to those who have lost beloved dogs.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…
Both Jake and Emma crossed the Rainbow Bridge in August 2026. We are grateful to have enjoyed their company in the Healy Pack Sanctuary and helped them finish their lives with dignity and love.
Our deepest condolences go out to Alan and Sue Moses, who recently lost their beloved German shepherd, Honey. Luckily, they had 13 great years with her, and she lived to the ripe old age of 15. Rest in peace, Honey girl.
We at Healy Pack send our heartfelt condolences to Saving Sage Animal Rescue. Sage, for whom the rescue was named, passed away at the age of 14. While our time with our dogs is always too short, Sage will never be forgotten—her legacy will continue, thanks to her amazing humans.
Our deepest condolences go out to fosters Helen Fielding and Paddy King. Thankfully, Beau was able to spend his final three months in a much-loved environment with great vet care. Sadly, poor Beau was in such bad shape when we rescued him from the shelter that our vet suggested euthanasia. At the very end, he was surrounded by love and had a peaceful passing.
